LATELY LIST VOLUME I
Hi!
Welcome to the Lately List segment of the newsletter & Joy Journal – joy in all of its forms: wonder, charm, contentment, and bliss. I often find joy in curious places: something that has challenged a long-held belief (so freeing), something that has felt unaligned and yet highlights my own beliefs, something that has felt entirely cozy, something that I've been using, or just simply anchors me in spaciousness of joy. I am Alexandra Joy Seits, your Joy Concierge. Before that, a thank you gift for being here – please enjoy this offering, a gentle somatic awareness exercise for joy & gratitude and then peruse the Alljoys Lately List –

READING
This newsletter from Full & Plenty Joy by Lucky McIntyre
This book: Shadow of Fame: A Memoir by the Daughter of Erik H. Erikson
This substack newsletter, That Said by Amanda Jones Vaughan, another Avalon lady… reinvigorated my love for vintage clothing, cleared of course
Ramit Sethi’s email newsletter, specifically his newsletter on couples’ Conscious Spending Plan submissions… woah
LISTENING
Adlerian psychology x Stoicism… favorite takeaway is probably Adler’s theory on separation of tasks (!! woah, did I need this being the eldest daughter with three younger brothers)… and comrades over competition, which is what I wish I could go back and teach to all middle school aged girls. Book overall does not feel trauma-informed though. Also, the format is a little annoying to listen to at first (a hypothetical conversation between a young person and a philosopher)
SOUNDFOOD podcast by Nitsa Citrine – listening to the episode where Nitsa Citrine and her partner, Brent Bolthouse, discussed George Falcon’s concept of wanting is the lowest vibration
This podcast hosted by Dr. Josh King
This book: The Psychology of Money Timeless Lessons on Wealth, Greed, and Happiness By: Morgan Housel – It’s pretty basic, but I am sending it to all my younger adult therapy & coaching clients + Ramit Sethi... I am a big Ramit fan
How to Take Care of Your Teeth and Gums with Dr Leedia Riman on Mitolife Radio
Food and Consciousness with Natalia Rose on Human Design with Jenna Zoe
My Oura ring app sleep soundtracks… although I got way too hooked on the storyline // disturbed by // wanted more of the Nordic fairytale stories and ended up feeling more awake from the Sleep tracks East of the Sun and West of the Moon & The Heart of the Forest. Think I’ll stick to The Coastal Walk to Babbacombe & A Walk to the Cottage for now. I’m getting my partner an Oura ring too and stoked about it … get your Oura ring here for $40 off
The Twelfth House podcast hosted by Michelle Pellizzon Lipsitz:
DRINKING
My morning anti-stress & herbal tonic:
Warm filtered water
Minerals – I use Trace Minerals (they taste super salty) or just Redmond Salt … often I skip the minerals because of the salty flavor and just add it to a cranberry juice drink later
Lily Choi Natural Healing tinctures like this one
Half a lemon
Glass straw to prevent acidity on tooth enamel
Raw milk from Pastured Farm Food Club sourced from Miller's Bio Farm based on the traditional principles of Dr. Weston A. Price. I miss getting raw milk in glass bottles in PA and then returning the glass bottles to the actual farmer(!), or the market to get your milk deposit money back and wow just that exchange seems so magical now, or being able to get raw milk in stores like at Mom's Market since it's legal for human consumption in PA… ugh the things I have taken for granted. I have tried four different places here in Florida, but nothing has come close to the raw milk from PA. Definitely nostalgic for the metal milk box we had outside our front door in Bryn Mawr when I was a child and going to the Amish Farmers markets, but I can't complain too much these days I do a beach meet pickup from the local acupuncturist
This matcha swapping out my affinity for Mizuba Matcha
Frothed chocolate milk with Moon Juice Cosmic Cocoa for an afternoon pick-me-up during work for my partner and me or an evening nightcap potion
EATING
Heated Siete almond flour tortillas with raw butter from Redland Dairy Farm from One World Zero Waste, scrambled eggs, beefsteak or heirloom tomatoes, cucumbers with Redmond Salt
Cottage cheese from our weekly Misfits Market delivery topped with blueberries, strawberries, & nectarines
Summer salads… I have been making this on repeat & my partner and I love it –
Butter lettuce (for a more tender bite) or iceberg lettuce (for more crunch) chopped or arugula (for more spice)
Cilantro chopped with vegetable shears (always use shears over chopping IMO)
Mini cucumbers or english cucumber sliced
Scallions (for more crunch) chopped with shears or chives (for a more tender bite)
Castrenova olives whole or chopped or these OG black olives
Blueberries &/or strawberries
Sugar snap peas
Goat cheese – we have been loving this one which we get from our Misfits Market order
Or this non-dairy cheese alternative
Or feta cheese
Crunch factor – ELLA’S FLATS Sesame All Seed Savory Crisps & Daily Crunch Dill Pickle Sprouted Almonds and Pepitas
Top with protein of choice, we have been loving pairing it/topping it with salmon burgers, chicken seasoned with lemon pepper, shrimp, or egg salad
Dressing: Mix together the following (sorry, I don’t measure anything much to my biology-major partner’s dismay) –
Greek yogurt
Olive oil
Sir Kensington’s or Chosen Foods mayo
Lots of capers “which pack a hefty dose of the antioxidant quercetin, which is anti-inflammatory and may help inhibit the growth of several types of cancer” (What Doctor William Li Eats Every Day To Beat Disease | mindbodygreen) & (What's The Juice: S4E02: CAN YOU “HEAL” YOUR METABOLISM? - Dr. William Li’s top 5 veggies for activating ‘brown fat’ + debunking metabolism myths)
Herbs (we use fresh like a whole head of cilantro chopped with shears, or mint, basil, parsley from my neighbor’s herb garden that I am taking care of this summer)
Salt (we use Redmond salt)
Additional salad toppings: Hearts of palm sliced or whole, avocado, macadamia nuts, sprouted watermelon seeds, sprouted sunflower seeds, sprouted almonds, sprouted pumpkin seeds, Siete lime cassava chips
This olive oil lemon zest cake my partner made for my birthday paired with this ice cream anything with vanilla bean specks. Now I need to look for a cake stand because lab scientist partners are really good bakers & I can’t let that talent go untapped
DOING
Swimming with friends (we call them yaps instead of laps because we mainly just float on our noodles or aquatic dumbbells & yap.. So not really swimming at all just chatting, laughing, & floating)
Potluck meals with friends / neighbors + impromptu dance parties
My Element altar – I position fire in the East for the rising sun, Water in the South, Earth in the West, and Air in the North & placing specific printed prayers on it for clients and praying on them
Listening to my intuition when it makes no logical sense…. but wow does it make beyond logical sense and rings THANK GOODNESS energy a few weeks out
Practicing being with what is & noticing when my controlling side is coming out & remembering to not play God/the Universe in other people’s lives.. For when we try to play God’s/The Universe’s role, we interfere with The Universe’s/God’s more perfect plan
Practicing a concept from The Minimalists: just because you miss something does not mean you should not have gotten rid of it. I have found myself nostalgic for random items from my childhood home. Though I’ve gotten a lot better, letting go of possessions is still hard, which is why I listen to The Minimalists and practice the KonMari method. However, after the challenges of storage units, mold, and moving things I haven’t touched in years– it is hard to unsee how not getting rid of things and holding onto them actually can cause harm to you
